Don’t Look Back.
1st October 2010

When Lot, his wife and his daughters were led out of Sodom by the two Angels they were expressly warned not to look back to that sinful city which lay flourishing in a green land, but Lot’s wife turned and received swift destruction for her folly. We are also being called out from amongst the ungodly, that we as they should not be punished with the wicked. Let us as Lot and his two daughters heed God’s warning and obey, refusing to look back to a riotous lifestyle that we once so enjoyed, but rather fearing “Remember Lots Wife” (Luke 17:32). For Jesus warns us who He calls out of Sodom, not to dwell any longer upon the sinful pleasures of a past life now dead, least while pondering upon those very things we are also overcome, turn back and perish with the wicked.

Luke 9:62
And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.
Lot and his two daughters having been led out of Sodom, fearing... obeyed God’s Word and were physically separated (sanctified) from the ungodly and so escaped the wrath that followed. But we, while still living amongst the ungodly are to be witness to this last generation, who He commands to be separated, not yet physically but in Spirit by obeying from the heart His Word, not hiding in the caves of the mountains as did Lot but hiding in Christ alone, our Rock... and our Saviour.

John 17:15-17
15 - I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.
16 - They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
17 - Sanctify them through thy truth: thy Word [Bible] is truth.

We who are Christ’s are commanded to look upon the Biblical account of Sodom as an example of what is about to take place at the end of the age. Though not as then, restricted to a few towns and villages but to an entire planet that has given itself over to the pleasures of Gomorrah and parades the sins of Sodom as to be celebrated rather than abhorred. For walk the streets of any of our major cities at night or note the theme of todays popular movies, peek into the lavish lifestyles of many, which those who have not yet attained also long for, and you will comprehend that we already abide in Sodom. For seeking to feast our eyes on the sins of Sodom and lusting after the lifestyle lived in Gomorrah we sit transfixed some 10, 20 or even 30 hours a week before a TV which parades their wares and teaches their values before our covetous eyes. Yet a worse crime is committed when children are made full citizens taught and committed to their ways before they can even judge right from wrong.

Ezekiel 16:49-50
49 - Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters [surrounding town villages], neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.
50 - And they were haughty, and committed abomination [deviant sexual acts] before me: therefore I took them away as I saw good.
It was not out of mere interest that Lot’s Wife turned her gaze toward her beloved city nor was it out of fascination that she stood there and stared. But her corrupted heart forced her and a soul exercised in pleasures held her, until as the rabbit frozen in the glare of approaching headlights she perished with the inhabitants of Sodom. For in the years she had dwelt in that city she had not chosen to seek the way of holiness as had Lot (2 Peter 2:7) but had rather sort it’s sinful pleasures. And at the last mastered by her iniquity, she mourning her loss looked back.
Luke 12:34
"For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
As Lot and his family, we too shall be tempted to look back when He... Christ comes to take of His own, just before Gods wrath falls upon todays Sodom. For if we have not put Christ above wife, husband, mother, father, child, sin and even our own lives we too as Lots wife shall hesitate, and suffer the wrath of God. There shall be no time for grand farewells, no moment to mourn the loss of our belongings or to consider the sin we should have cast-off. Let us then, as those who had made themselves ready in Egypt, feed from our Passover Lamb who is Christ... fully dressed with staff in hand ready to leave at the cry, a cry that shall surely come when we least expect.
1 Corinthians 10:12
Wherefore let him that think he stand take heed lest he fall.
What shall we say then? For if while having the luxury to consider these things we still spend our time gathering to ourselves riches and belongings, putting holidays, phones, cars and TV's above the cries of the needy and the groans of the poor, how then shall we be able to choose Christ in that moment? And if we now being bound with sin, do not struggle to break free from its cruel bonds, how shall we then escape?

If it was that we should be afforded the time to use our intellect, then I feel sure all called would escape. But God in His ultimate wisdom will discover those who are worthy, for we being given but a moment to react rather than think, shall react on...

...who we truly are and not on, who we know we should be!

Luke 21:36
Watch therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things [The Tribulation] that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.
When I first became a Christian I met an old friend from my childhood who had know Christ for some years. One day he hit his shin horribly hard against the corner of a brick wall, though in terrific pain not one word was there of blasphemy nor cursing from his lips. With no time to think but only to react the state of his heart was revealed in a moment, and I was shocked. For I knew very well that if it should have been me all sorts of cursing would have preceded from my mouth before I had time to think. And so shall it be in the moment Christ calls, with no time to think we shall simply react and in doing so reveal where our heart truly lies.
