Proverbs 9:10
The fear oF THE LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
Before I was a Christian, and to be honest, in my early days of seeking after God I had a real anger towards the idea of having to ‘Fear God’
. Why did I want anything to do with a God that I would have to be terrified of?
Now better informed I obviously see things much differently, we can only make ‘informed’ decisions on information we have at hand and with the
‘god of this World’ blinding the eyes of the people we have to dig a little to get at the truth. How blessed it is to have your eyes opened and what a difference it makes to each day and every relationship when you can truly see. How many times have we chosen to hate someone because we were so sure that they stole something from us or slandered us only to find out that we were ill informed. When we eventually discovered the truth it ‘instantly’ set us free from a burning hatred, a terrible burden, depression or even bondage to a habit such as drinking etc... If such a great change can happen when you discovered the truth regarding such a small thing,
imagine the changed life when you discover the real truth about life itself!
John 8:32
And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
Getting back to the ‘fear of God’, again I was reminded of a child trying to grab one of those lovely glowing coals from the fireplace
. Any loving parent would pull them back instantly denying them their wish and educating them of the consequences of such an action. But the rebellious (like me
) may not listen but rather decide that they are
being unfairly denied something wonderful. And once again the loving parent would pull them back, yet if this was to continue eventually the child would have to be rebuked, not out of hatred but through love and by doing so save the child from great harm. What peace enters into a household where the children fear their parents and what peace enters into the life of a person when they know and fear the Lord, the Lord who dearly cares for them.
I understand that there are many children who fear their parents for all the wrong reasons, some even using such Scriptures to abuse and dominate them, I do not say that is good but only use the above as an example to expound what I have learned through the years of knowing God and His love for me and for you. As a ‘just and loving’ parent is trying to prepare their children for the time when they will have to take responsibility for their own actions so our Heavenly Father is preparing us for something much greater. Yes, that we may have peace and blessings in this life but for much much more.
1 Corinthians 6:1-3
2 Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?
3 Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?
Revelation 20:6
Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.
Somehow, I don't know how I do it, I always seem to come back to the coming Millennium, forgive me but it is one of those subjects that has always fascinated me as it is spread all over the Bible!
Proverbs 2:1-5
1 My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;
2 So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;
3 Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;
4 If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;
5 Then shalt thou understand the fear oF THE LORD, and find the knowledge of God.
