“It may be that God can forgive sin but I do not see how.”
What Socrates was struggling with was the fact that if God was to remain righteous... He MUST first punish all sin, how then can a ‘Righteous God’ forgive sin yet remain righteous... do you see the dilemma?
For even here on Earth, do we not fully acknowledge that if a court judge is to remain righteous, he must punish all law breakers? Much more then the living God!
And having all sinned... ‘Righteousness’ requires that we must all be punished, that is if a ‘Righteous God’ is to remain righteous.
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.
For the wages of sin is death...
And in such a death without God’s ‘life giving spirit’ to bind the triune nature of life together (body, soul and spirit)... our guilty eternal souls shall remain, though conscious... forever imprisoned... far away from the presence of the living God.
...the body without the spirit is dead...
Then He will also say to those on His left, “Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels”
The Good News!
What hope then for us sinners, how can a righteous God possibly forgive sin, and so save the unrighteous?
At an unimaginable cost... a cost that far exceeds the scope of this blog, our merciful God found a way... a way not only to satisfy His ‘Righteousness’ and thus remain righteous, but to extend His mercy to the ‘Unrighteous’, who Socrates would have declared... “To The Unforgivable”.
Because of the faith God has given to me in His Son Jesus... God no longer sees any of my sins... but the just and righteous punishment for ‘my sins’ laid upon another at the Cross. Jesus, having suffered the righteous wrath of God ‘in my stead’... I today in believing stand clean, righteous and justified before the mighty and living God. Guiltless of any crime and so free from all punishment. For once sin has been atoned for... what need is there of punishment.
For Christ also has once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God...
...the [RIGHTEOUS] life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
- Jesus the Righteous
- Paying for my sins fulfilled God’s righteousness
- Being guiltless in life death had no legal authority to hold Him
- The repentant Sinner
- Now with no outstanding dept... inherits eternal life
- The unrepentant Sinner
- Will himself satisfy God’s righteous law in death.
- Guilty... will never raise to life ever again.
For there is but one price for sin, just one... the death of the sinner. Either you will satisfy the price of sin yourself, or as I... accept Christ’s free gift for your sin
There is no salvation outside of Christ... no not any. God knows your state and every secret deed... yet still, sent His Son to save you. His Son who terrified at the price to pay, cried out in fear...
saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.
How then shall the Father, having seen the terrors suffered by His guiltless Son despised, show mercy to those who standing before Him at the judgement, beg for mercy? No... only in life and only now is this gracious gift offered, now is the day of your salvation... grasp it while you still may.

I have a small website to build this month, for my brother and his friends who are going to ride around the UK on the model of 50cc mopeds they first ever rode, last year they rode from Scotland to Wymondham in Norfolk.
